Understanding the Pace Glass
Single-Stream Recycling Process

Step 1:

Recyclables are collected by Pace from towns, municipalities, and individuals.

Step 2:

Collected recyclables are brought in bulk to the Pace materials recovery facility (MRF).

Step 3:

At the MRF, glass is separated from the other materials, and processed by a variety of techniques.  No water is used – the glass is blasted and separated.

Step 4:

The end result is called “cullet”, which consists of small glass pieces, ready to be sold to manufacturers to be used to make new glass products.  This glass material is optically sorted and separated by color:  flint, green and brown.

Step 5:

The final products are then bailed or pelletized for transportation and re-use.
